Located on the Goodnestone Park estate, owned by Lord and Lady Fitzwalter and a favourite of Jane Austen’s, Bonnington Cottage is just a short walk to the quaint village of Goodnestone, the ideal location for a country walk. The historic city of Canterbury is also within reach, with its majestic cathedral, numerous gardens, museums, shops and restaurants. The location is also ideally situated for coastal visits, the charming seaside towns of Sandwich and Whitstable easily accessible by car.
Bonnington Cottage was the principle seat of the Boys family, who can be traced back to the Norman Conquest, until 1666 when it passed to the Brome family. Finally, it passed to the Goodnestone Park estate in 1710. The cottage has been put to multifarious uses since its construction. Initially a granary, upon being passed to the Goodnestone estate, it became the House Farm. Subsequently, the late Lord FitzWalter used it as his estate office before it was converted into a home used by the family, such as the current Lord and Lady FitzWalter, who inhabited it during their first months of marriage. Most recently, it has undergone renovation to become a holiday rental property.
