The hallway features one of the oldest architectural centrepieces of the house, the grand oak staircase with carved banisters. The staircase, the perfect venue for capturing majestic wedding photos, was created as part of the original 1704-built Queen Anne style Palladian mansion, pioneered by British architect Sir Roger Pratt in the 1650s. The house was originally designed as a brick double-pile house, in which there would be two storeys above a basement with an attic. Later owners of the estate would make their own alterations, such as the 3rd Baronet, who commissioned Robert Mylne to renovate the house, raising the 2nd floor and redesigning the enfilade of reception rooms of the ground floor and first  floor bedrooms in the 18th century. Other portraits of previous inhabitants line the walls of the room and those surrounding the staircase, mementos of the extensive family ancestry. There are portraits of Margaret Bosville, the mother of Margaretta Marsham who married Sir Brook Bridges 1st Baronet; the father of Sir Brook Bridges 1st Baronet; Emily Baird, the second wife of Lord FitzWalter, the 20th Baron; and of Colonel John Bridges of Harcourt Hall, father of Brook Bridges and grandfather of Sir Brook Bridges, 1st Baronet.

The hallway is also home to some of the house’s most impressive artefacts: the chandelier with its purple, orange and red coloured drops hanging from the ceiling is a surprisingly recent addition to the collection of family heirlooms, found by the current Lord and Lady FitzWalter in a North London warehouse. There is also a Bechstein grand piano in the hallway, reminiscent of the interests of Lady FitzWalter, who was an accomplished pianist.  Lady FitzWalter trained at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of the famous German concert pianist, Franz Osborn and played a part in the establishment of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition for young violinists. A velvet upholstered settee sits to the side of the staircase, scattered with colourful cushions.
